If you’re someone like myself, I’m not too up to speed with how the track plays at Del Mar.

With the Breeders Cup coming up this weekend, knowing what to expect from a track profile perspective is important. Compiling information from each day of racing this summer at Del Mar is of utmost importance when looking at what horses fit to how the track plays.

A few things stand out when looking at the results from a few months ago:

Early runners won 53% of dirt sprints

58% of dirt routes were won by early runners

Posts 1-3 won 46% of turf routes

r6, at parx had a nice $15.60 winner as well over the 1/5 shot, using dave's approach.

i was following parx as well today, ram, after your genius recommendations. was the race it missed r4? that race fs suggested the 8 but the 4 which won and paid over $44 was a jockey switch to ruiz and a top work out horse. the $2x paid almost $300! the 8 placed and paid $8.60! thanks dave for your key insight! and jimmy p. thank you as well!

hey ram: i use jim p's. but also have my own which has the days since last race and days since last race or work so that you know if the work out is fresh (since after the last race).

fields: 30, 26, 27, 28, 224 and 225.

i play mainly maiden races and cheap claimers where exceptional work outs really make a difference.
there were 2 more bombs today, both at fanduel, formerly fairmount park. r3, was msw and the 3 had a 94 work out (tops) and the next highest was the 2 at 85. the 3 came from off the pace, storming down the stretch to win and paid $20.80!

r5, at fanduel, was a cheap claimer for 4k and not only was the 8 the second best work out at 77, there was a jockey switch to uriel lopez who won r3 as well. the 8 paid $38.60 to win and $14.60 to place!

factors 24 and 25. thanks for the clarification, jimmy. i was just going to do that myself. and factor 26 has best work out in last 8 days.

Create a report. Days since last race and days since last work out. When they are the same you know there are no new work outs since last race. When the work out days is less than the race days then you have a fresh work out. I will post the factors I used shortly as I am not currently on my laptop.

I have never compared them. I just include both. Would make an interesting study. Usually the top win jocks are the higher % jocks but not always.

brian: i start with the daily equibase scratches and changes but they don't always have the latest information. than i check the track crawl as well.

jockey standings can be found under the leaders tags; leaders by track. then once you are there you select jockeys, track and date and you will get your list. check win % with a minumum # of starts as well as total wins.

note: 3/4 horses were a+, one was an f. the f finished in a thrilling 3 way photo for the win.

dennis: do you have any stats on balos finishing second or third? thank you!

using fave angle and 3 deT contenders in following race leads to a $2 $262 daily double!

r1 finger lakes: initial contenders were the 2,5,6. 2 was a balo and 5 was an f. so i liked the 6. this is where my favorite angle came in. day of the race jockey switch on the 7 to andrew worrie who was #2 in the standings only 1 win behind the leader, keibar coa. the 7 was also an a+ and a magnitude 2 horse.
so my bets were 6 and 7 to win, 7 to place as well since its' gate odds were 32/1. the double play was 6,7/1,3,6. for the x 6,7/all.

r2 finger lakes: my contenders were the 1,3,6. 1 was an f under best horse and thinking post race i probably should not have included it. the 6 was a balo but was a b+ under best horse. as a group we still seem to be determining when balos should be completely eliminated from the win position.

results: r1 the 7 won and paid $67 and $23.50 to place. the 7/5 x paid $113.75.

results: r2 6/3/1/2 6 won and paid $8.20. as previously noted the double paid $262.

usually the way i identify day of the race jock changes is to look them under equibase's track's race changes for the day. i did that today but none were listed for r1. however when i went to the track feed, it was listed on the crawl at the bottom of the page for race changes. so please be aware of that.

dave r. the "ram" please feel free to share some more of your winning stories. i found the first day 15K post and later wins of yours very inspiring!

contender selection:

who is probably going to win; look at:
1) ai line %'s
2) best horse %'
3) 0whales %'s

add horses %'s in each category that add up to a total of 62%! those are your initial contenders.
