  • Is the CUTAWAY a good idea?
I've given this some thought and I admittingly don't know the rules regarding this cutaway but I'm not in favor of it.
    Questions on rules:
    1) Are there limits to how many horses and take advantage of the cutaway? Or is it reserved only for the inside horse following the leader.
    2) Are the inside leaders prohibited from dropping into the cutaway even if there are no rivals close behind them. For example the leader has a 3 length lead.

I also see a safety concern running through the turn. Will the cutaway make navigating the turn more dangerous as multiple horses attempt to gain rail position? Horses tend to lean out a bit when they are making the turn which could lead to more crowding.

Just not if favor of it based on the information I have right now
  • Is the CUTAWAY a good idea?
This may require some thought but at first pass I don't like the idea. I also see some issues with jockey safety as well. I should study up on this as some folks believe it is a good idea. lol
  • I'm Colty

Thanks Colty- so much of what I've learned from Dave is not 'always bet the top EP' type stuff but instead ways to approach this business. This gives you confidence when playing and in your self. Good luck going forward Colty!!

  • How do I continue to let this happen?
Now that is something to think about!! Appreciate the ideas
  • How do I continue to let this happen?

I was never involved in the Sartin methodology but I do remember reading about that contra energy concept. Sounds like you find it viable. If I played exactas that would be interesting

    Tough balancing act William

  • Podcast: Introducing Tony the K - Professional Player (Aug. 3, 2021)

It was a bittersweet seminar as Dave was transitioning from ThoroBrain 4?? (which I loved as a product) to the Handicappers Notebook. 30 years later and I'm still whining about it. Lol

Great to hear from you Gerard!!! That seminar was great fun. Also got the opportunity to meet some wonderful ppl like yourself. I realize that economics and logistics make on-line seminars so much more practical in todays world, but I do miss the human interaction. Dave was so great on the fly at those seminars.
I hope you can stay active on this forum and contribute!!
  • Turn Times
Regarding ground loss I see both sides of this debate. But I do utilize Thorograph sheets at times and ground loss is a big component there. I've found the Thorograph performance figs to be the MOST accurate figs I've ever used and their presentation is very comfortable to my eye. So if I had to pick a side in the ground loss debate I'd have to conclude that ground loss does matter

  • Kinky Handicapping - What's It About?

Steven, I looked for my copy of Kinky Handicapping and I can not locate it. Seems many things got misplaced as a result of a move.
  • Late Odds Changes

I know this is a hot button issue for so many people. Not so much for me. I do understand the frustration of not getting the payout you expected due to late bets but you are correct that odds on other horses go up. Improvements in technology may display the odds changes sooner but won't change the outcome.
