Those are the values each rank gets. For instance if a horse has 10 firsts, he gets 7 x 10 for 70 points. He has 6 seconds and gets 4 X 6 for 24 points and then he has 5 thirds so he gets 1 X 5 points and then has a total of 70 + 24 + 5 = 99 points.

Here is how it is calculated. Using the morning line ranking

Horses that finished first = 351
    7 X 351 = 2,457

    Horses that finished second= 369
    4 X 369 = 1,476

    Horses that finished third= 368
    1 X 368 = 368

    2457
    1476
