  • DET Does Pace - Video Link
Curious if you're capturing "Cap" the weights that are there or if you've played around using your own weights?
  • Course: How to Be Competitive in the Age of the Whales
Other ratings like PSR also include other factors like statistical data, pace, running style, jockey, etc. It's not just a form rating. Since both are proprietary, we don't know the exact factors or how they're weighted. Higher is better. Guessing the ELO would work well for selecting contenders.
  • Course: How to Be Competitive in the Age of the Whales
I don't use AmWager. Curious how their ELO scores compare to PSR, cPwr, cRtg or BRIS Prime Power? Specifically ranking the horses in a race. For example, in a 6 horse field, do the horses rank 1 through 6 the same using AW ELO and PSR? Maybe check about 10 races to see any differences and how it performs.
  • Will Chat GPT use AI to Handicap?
So, it can't use AI, rather it uses statistical methods-- using a lot of data.
  • CAW losses helped balloon payouts at 2024 Breeders' Cup
An "atypical" couple of days with large fields, foreign invaders and the public wagering much more than usual. Isn't representative of the CAW's impact on most racing days. I would still prefer cutting off the CAW's 2 to 5 minutes to post.
  • Modeling - Part II
Okay. While modeling, I was wondering if the results would hold up at other tracks. Looks like you're getting similar results using SAX which is good news.
  • Modeling - Part II
Is the 20 races a mix of tracks or only tracks that you play? The modeling I completed used BAQ, GPX, WOX, FLX, MVR and PRX. Curious if you were using different tracks.
  • Modeling - Part II
Finished with modeling. Maybe get back to it in the next few weeks just to see if there's any significant changes. I used Brian's spreadsheet, but I tailored it towards what I wanted. So it's a little different.

"L-0: No low odds horses." 12 of 30 winners were BH Rank 1. Again keyed by LP, SR and Spd. The BH Rank 1's are strong contenders. Average win payouts in the L-0's was about $12.58. There were 6 +$20 winners in this category.

"L-1: 1 horse <2.91-1." This is by far the largest category. BH Ranks 1 and 2 were winning at 28.9%. Again, LP, SR and Spd. Also, E and EP not far behind. BH Rank 1's were winning at 28%. Seems a good handicapping strategy would be to ignore the BH Rank 1's, or only include them if they are very strong. Even then, look to adjudicate them if they are ranked low in trainer, jockey and/or condition (or whatever factors you like to use).

"L-2: 2 horses <2.91-1." BH Ranks 1 and 2 won at 53.8% of the time. Again-- LP, SR and Spd work well. Noticed that BH Ranks 2 with E and EP together work well. Also, BH Ranks 1 and 2 won the same number of races at 26% each. Note: 50% of the winners-- tTrk (Trainer at the Track) were Rank 1 or 2.

If any questions, please let me know.
  • Anybody around for a Zoom at 7:50pm pacific time MONDAY 10/27
Thanks Dave, gave me another idea to add to my handicapping approach.
  • Sat. Oct. 25 - How to Compete in the Age of the Whales (Video is up)
Thanks. Plan to check out a few more races next week. Not sure if it matters, but I've been modeling only the 3-4 tracks that I wager on.
  • Announcement: Video Series Is Available Now!
Excellent videos Dave!! If you had told me that PSR Rank 1 horses that are NOT 1st or 2nd Public Choices only win at 12.2%-- I would not have believed you. The same with FTBL2 and FTB2L3.
Also, "Horses bet down to the Favorite are better bets than horses that were projected to be the Favorite to begin with".
  • Announcement: Video Series Is Available Now!
Yes, it's there. Jumping into the first video now-- thanks.
  • Hoping I could get an answer or concrete answer
From HDW-- "Currently our website is down, we are hoping to have it back up in the next couple of weeks. If there is anything we can help with, please let us know. We can be reached at (859 800-5513)."
  • Hoping I could get an answer or concrete answer
FYI. I just sent an email checking to see if they still have the website.
  • AI Assistant/Abby Observations
Yes and no. Usually there are multiple horses that are High Rank 1 and/or 2 LP/SR rankings. The results I posted were from one day and they were not "single" High Rank 1 and/or 2 LP/SR contenders. So you can use this to separate contenders. It is something I like to use when I handicap.
  • Having a problem
Did you click Settings and re-type the old factors you want to use in the 5 fields? Then click on AI Agents and then click on abPACE. The factors should be the new ones that you typed in.
  • AI Assistant/Abby Observations
I have the Tie Breaks setup in the Settings for Abby Pace (not a separate report).
  • AI Assistant/Abby Observations
Here's several nice low odds winners from yesterday Tuesday 02SEP2025 that I call "strong LP/SR" contenders from Abby Pace. High Rank 1 and/or 2 LP/SR rankings. Since these are strong LP/SR, they're going to be low odds contenders. Remember, if the race Pace designation is E or EP, make sure the contender's ES is NOT 0 or 1. ES 0/1's do not win that many E or EP races.
    BTP R1 - #4 $5.40
    BTP R7 - #3 $5.80
    BTP R8 - #3 $9.20
    FLX R4 - #8 $4.04
    FLX R5 - #7 $6.68
    FLX R6 - #2 $6.66
    FPX R3 - #2 $5.20
    FPX R4 - #2 $7.60
    FPX R8 - #2 $5.60
    IND R2 - #7 $7.00
    IND R3 - #5 $7.40
    PRX R9 - #5 $9.00
    PID R3 - #3 $6.60
    PID R4 - #4 $4.20
    LAD R5 - #2 $4.40
There were also 13 other sub-Even$ winners that I didn't bother to list.

Honestly, I haven't looked at the abRx/abRY (found in BR2 button) that closely. I checked several races from yesterday, and you're definitely on to something here. This is a very good BALO determinator.
I do use Abby Pace. From the other post-- watch the video "Detailed Abby Instruction Wednesday 08-20 Meeting". It's very good.
Here's the Tiebreakers I've set up.
    280 - FTBL3
    214 - Earnings/Start
    36 - Jockey Rating
    1,630 - Trainer/Track
    12 - Condition
A couple of observations. I like to review the Abby pace rankings like in the video. Pay attention to contenders that are Rank 1 in both LP and SR, even in "E and EP" designated races unless their ES points are 0 or 1. These contenders may not rank high early because of their running style, but they stay close enough to the pace. For example a contender with an ES 5 and there's 6, 7 or 8's in the race. The contender does not rank that high early, but the ES 5 keeps him in contention.
A tie breaker I like to look for is a Trainer/Track Rank of say 5 or 6 and a Jockey Rating of 1 or 2. You have a good contender with not the best trainer, but one of the best jockeys. Could work well in Exacta place tickets since it may signal that the trainer is going for purse money.
  • Why Vegas is Losing Customers
Guessing there's a lot of reasons. Here in Illinois, Wisconsin and Indiana we have casinos (with shows). Reasonably priced weekdays, not so much on the weekends. There's also on-line sports gambling. Was Vegas fueled by the Baby Boomers and now that's slowly going away? Seems a lot of my friends 20-30 year old kids have it tough financially with high housing costs and taxes. Not much if any extra income for gambling let alone Vegas. As we talked about before, not many young people learned card games, craps, roulette, horse racing, etc growing up. They have no idea how to play these casino games and don't seem to be interested in learning. Maybe like horse racing, there's no younger bettors to replace the older ones.
