DET FAQ00002- What steps must we take at the end of the year?

We've been using HDW data for over two decades.
When we started, conventional file naming was 8 characters plus an extension.

Because of the 8-character limit, we were forced to a format that begins with MMDD without a year.

Thus, at the end of the year, we must empty the c:\HDW_HSH folder of all files.

The Challenge is early in the new year when you will have BOTH YEARS in that folder.

    You actually will HAVE TO.

    Consider January 1st.
You're importing the past performances for Jan 1st, 2025 but you also need the results for Dec 31, 2024!

    THE TRUTH:
    1. Just delete the files and don't worry about it.
    2. Then, some time in Mid-January, delete the entire contents again.
    3. What is the worst that could possibly happen?
    4. The answer to that question is that for some crazy reason, you need some data that you deleted.
    5. You paid for the files. They can be replaced without you paying again.

Just make sure that when JANUARY comes around that there are no Past Performance files from LAST JANUARY. That will mess things up.

That's how people wind up with AQU races on a Tuesday in January even though AQU doesn't run on Tuesdays: because there was a file left from the previous year and it was imported like it was this year.

When in doubt, you will call and I will say, "Just delete the entire contents."
You can save both of us the phone call. :)
