I am a small time gambler, who started out at the dog track of Wheeling WV. Playing the dogs and horses there, and then going to the "The Greyhound Lounge", across the street. Where they had a stinky, smoke filled, back room with a full chalkboard of games/odds. You put your bet on a little piece of carbon copy paper, and the old guy stationed there smoking his cigar and smelling like whiskey would take your money, and rip of the carbon bottom of the paper, for your receipt. Now, I mostly do sports only. The one exception is Australian Horse Racing, because, even though takeout is bad, using the fixed odds in Australia they offer, you can easily figure out who has the sharp money, and who they are against. If you have decent rebates, it is winnable. Hope this thing flies and we get some more good minds in here! Thanks!
Thanks. No, there is no fixed odds available for horse racing in the US. New Jersey use to have Betfair, but they pulled out, didn't get enough action there to financially justify staying in operation there. Except for a couple events the sportsbooks are willing to put fixed outs out for, like the Kentucky Derby, Breeders Cup Classic, etc. But, I have figured out some things in watching the odds boards on Australia, it tells you more about who is live and who isn't, much more so than the para-mutual totes tell you. Not saying it can make you rich. But, it can allow you to have some fun and either break even, or scrounge out a small profit.
Unfortunately no, we can only bet into the separate Pari-Mutual pools, which are run by Sky Racing World, at most all the major horse betting sites in America.
